Body length 30-35 cm, tail 15 cm. The main coloring of the plumage is dark green with a yellowish tint in the lower body. Crown and forehead blue-gray. The site around the eyes to the beak and the bridle of the gray-white color. Wing bend, blade bright red. The inner side of the tail and fly feathers is yellow, paramount flying covering feathers of blue shoulders. The beak is brown-black. Gray paws. The iris brown.

Lives in the Amazon basin from Guviana and Venezuela to Brazil.

There are 2-3 eggs in the masonry. The chicks appear after 3 weeks, and at 1.5 months of age they are getting ahead and fly out of the nest.

In captivity, this type of parrot has been contained from the end of the 19th century.

The view includes 3 subspecies:

  • Red -fly Ara Diopsittaca nobilis nobilis (Linnaeus, 1758) — body length up to 30 cm. It lives in the north-north-east of Brazil, in Venezuela, Gayan, Suriname, Guiana.
  • Noble Ara, or dwarf diopsittaca nobilis cumanensis (Lichtenstein, 1823) — Looks like a nominal subspecies, but the forehead and the crown — lighter blue. Bones are b1. The bird itself is larger — up to 33 cm. Inhabitant in Central Brazil.
  • Ara Neuman Diopsittaca Nobilis Longipennis Neumann, 1931 — Similar to Ara N. cumanensis, but larger — up to 35 cm. Lives in the south and southwest of Brazil.
